The Black Staff Association of the United Methodist Church is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to serving the needs of black staff serving The United Methodist Church in staff positions with UMC boards, agencies, conferences, jurisdictions, and districts. BSA will work collaboratively with all segments of The United Methodist Church in order to strengthen relationships that help to equip staff to more effectively network, empower and engage missional in our communities as we seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our global world.

Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

Discipleship Ministries, an agency of The United Methodist Church, is seeking an exceptional candidate for our vacancy of Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer.  The incumbent of this position will serve as the Chief Financial Officer and elected Treasurer of the Agency of Discipleship/D.B.A. Discipleship Ministries board of directors and is a member of the agency’s executive staff leadership group.

As a key member of the agency’s executive staff leadership group, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Treasurer will report to the General Secretary and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the agency. The CFO will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the agency.  This positon will also provide leadership to the financial and some operational areas of Discipleship Ministries; provide general oversight for the fiscal affairs of the Board, legal matters, and carry out programs and directions of General Conference.

The CFO will be accountable for the planning, coordination, interpretation and implementation of goals and objectives to support the agency’s vision and mission. The ideal candidate will be a person of hope and vision, deeply rooted in Christian faith and practice; profess membership in The United Methodist Church, have knowledge of The United Methodist Church structure & polity; knowledge of the Agency of Discipleship policies & procedures and demonstrated cultural sensitivity. In addition, candidate must have advanced knowledge and experience in areas of finance and accounting; business administration management; cost accounting; analyzing and evaluating investment objectives and portfolio performance; proficiency in strategic planning, organizing, training, team building; decision making; demonstrated continuous improvement in professional knowledge; strong communication skills (written & verbal), computer skills and electronic media skills. 

Education/Experience

Master’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalency

Five to seven years’ experience in accounting, financial, operations and administrative management

 

Additional Knowledge Required

Demonstrated advanced knowledge in accounting, operations, and business administration.
